CHG’s efforts to increase diversity and educate its workforce about diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) have not gone unnoticed. Recently, the company was named by Newsweek as one of America’s Greatest Workplaces for Diversity for 2023.
CHG began its DEI journey in 2021 with a three-year strategy designed to align diversity goals with the company’s corporate business plan. The organization has spent the last 15 months implementing a variety of programs and initiatives to help create a more diverse and inclusive corporate culture. The successful strategy includes:
- Workplace training including monthly lunch and learns on a variety of diversity topics such as Inclusive Language and Transitioning Veterans.
- Creation of seven employee resource groups – about Veterans, Hispanics, Blacks, women, LGBTQ+, next generation, and Canadian employees. These groups improve employee engagement and cultural knowledge for groups who have been largely marginalized.
- A new supplier diversity program to help CHG monitor and obtain more diverse suppliers.
- Review of corporate policies, procedures, and processes to ensure equity among employees.
- Implementation of diversity maturity training for leadership.
- Cultural roundtables at facilities to gather employee opinions.
- Relationship building with customers and community partners.

Newsweek deploys a research firm annually to survey HR professionals and collect more than 350,000 unbiased company reviews of US-based companies with more than 1,000 employees. Respondents answer questions about their place of employment or other places where they believe diversity was being honored and implemented in the business. The respondents represented various demographics including ethnicity and gender, with significant surveys for LGBTQ+ and people with disabilities.
