More than 20 seniors from San Antonio ISD have been awarded $1,500 scholarships by C.H. Guenther & Son (CHG) to pursue careers in food service or a related industry.

The seniors, from 11 different campuses, are participants in the SAISD’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. Through CTE, students choose a career cluster and participate in courses that provide them with the knowledge and skills they need for college, trade programs, and a future career.

“We are so grateful for these scholarships, which allow our students to expand their knowledge in their chosen fields by pursuing advanced certifications and education,” said Johnny Vahalik, assistant superintendent of College, Career and Military Readiness in SAISD. “We thank C. H. Guenther & Son for supporting the goals of the next generation of innovators.”

Most of the 22 students awarded the CHG scholarship are seeking careers in the culinary industry, agriculture, business, hospitality and tourism, and event management. The scholarships are part of Guenther Gives, CHG’s corporate giving program which focuses on addressing the root causes of challenges faced in the communities in which CHG operates. The program looks to direct resources toward food security, health and well-being, and education.  The education component is geared toward educating future food and beverage industry leaders in health, quality, safety and sustainability.

“Through scholarships like these, CHG can focus on programs that provide students with the technical knowledge and real-world skills they need to get started in a current or an emerging profession,” says John Buckles, CEO of CHG. “We hope these students will succeed in their chosen careers and use their skills to support their community in San Antonio.”
